What is the Interdental Papilla?

The interdental papilla is the part of your gums in between your teeth and its function is to help protect the root of your teeth and prevent decay from food and drink. Dentist tell you to floss once a day and brush twice a day for many reasons. One being that if you don’t, your interdental papilla will begin to recede which will affect your oral health. The interdental papilla is part of your gums and healthy gums are always a light pink color. The interdental papilla can begin to recede because of improper brushing and flossing.

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic Acid can also be known as HA which “is a naturally occurring linear polysaccharide of the extracellular matrix of connective tissue, synovial fluid, and other tissues” (1). In the field of dentistry, HA is used to aid in periodontal healing. When the interdental papilla shows signs of inflammation, HA can provided for treatment. Hyaluronic Acid has been shown to be, “anti-inflammatory, anti-oedematous, and anti-bacterial effects for the treatment of periodontal disease…” (2).  The benefits of HA are numerous in dental treatments.
